Season 2 of STAR TREK has some great episodes like the two VULCAN episodes (AMOK TIME and JOURNEY TO BABEL), THE DOOMSDAY MACHINE, ASSIGNMENT: EARTH (it was a pilot for a proposed spin-off series), and MIRROR, MIRROR. Also season 2 has the highly overrated THE TORUBLE WITH TRIBBLES. The remastered episodes of season 2 feature some great new CGI effects and some that do stick out like a sore thumb. Best use of the CGI effects appear in THE DOOMSDAY MACHINE and ASSIGNMENT: EARTH to name a couple episodes. The CGI effects aren't perfect, but they do allow some things to be done they couldn't with the original effects.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
Every episode comes with the original preview trailer (a nice extra) and various featurettes that shed a light on the original series.

DESIGNING THE FINAL FRONTIER- interview with the production designer and others. they would be working on 5 to 7 episodes in various stages of design. also learn about the sky colors of planet sets, set dressing secrets, the various Tribbles, and the Jefferies Tubes.
WRITER'S NOTEBOOK: D.C. FONTANA- she talks about shorting her name to initials, various episodes, and making up the Vulcans as they went along.
STAR TREK'S FAVORITE MOMENTS- fans and cast & crew from other Trek series talk about their favorite moments, episodes, and characters.

DISC 5-
The overrated THE TROUBLE WITH TRIBBLES gets it's own disc of extras which includes the Tribbles episode form the animated series and the DEEP SPACE NINE Tribbles episodes which has it's own two featurettes:
TRIALS AND TRIBBLE-ATIONS: UNITING TWO LEGENDS-
TRIALS AND TRIBBLE-ATIONS: AN HISTORIC ENDEAVOR-

DISC 8-
LIFE BEYOND STAR TREK: LEONARD NIMOY- a fascinating featurette on the photography of Leonard Nimoy. learn the origin of the famous Vulcan hand gesture.

STAR TREK'S DIVINE DIVA: NICHELLE NICHOLS- Nichelle Nichols talks about her career and how it folded into Star Trek and Uhura's name.

FINAL ANALYSIS: It is fun to re-visit the original series. The new effects sometimes work and are wonderful to see. The extras are also worth watching.
