L.A. CONFIDENTIAL is the type of film that I didn’t like much at first. I really loved the book. With repeat viewing, I grew to love the film. The film captures the feeling and basic plot of the book. The book does have some great sub-plots that the film had to lose to come in under 2 ½ hours. The film launced the Hollywood career of Russell Crowe.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
DISC 1- an audio commentary that is edited together as you hear from various cast and crew. Also on the disc is an isolated music track

DISC 2-
Various featurettes go into the making of the film from the film getting funded, fighting for the right cast, the film's visual look, and more
WHATEVER YOU DESIRE: MAKING L.A. CONFIDENTIAL-
SUNLIGHT AND SHADOW: THE VISUAL STYLE OF L.A. CONFIDENTIAL-
A TRUE ENSEMBLE: THE CAST OF L.A. CONFIDENTIAL-
L.A. CONFIDENTIAL: FROM BOOK TO SCREEN-

OFF THE RECORD- vintage cast and crew interviews-
DIRECTOR CURTIS HANSON’S PHOTO PITCH- interesting to watch as Hanson goes through his original pitch for the film
L.A. CONFIDENTIAL TV Pilot- The pilot starring Kiefer Sutherland is not that bad and CBS decided not to pick it up due to the cost of the show. Their loss was FOX's gain and 24 started a year later.

FINAL ANALYSIS: L.A. CONFIDENTIAL is a modern noir classic. The extras make this a fine DVD package for any fan.
