A man with no memory wakes up in a dark underground place where people work sapping a big mutant tree (of sorts).   The place is EDEN LOG and the man searches for a way to the surface.  In his way are the infected workers (who have turned into savages) and a security team looking to clean the mess up one way or another.   He searches for answers to where he is and what is happening.

EDEN LOG is one more film that continues the wave of intriguing French sci-fi films.   It's washed out, desaturated look adds to the atmosphere as the audience finds out the answers as the man does.   You only see what he sees.  If he isn't in the scene or he didn't come across a recording of what is happening, you aren't going to know it.   EDEN LOG is kinda of like a sci-fi version of the BOURNE IDENTITY in a dark underground complex.   It just is more intimate and quiet.   You wonder what is going to happen and one scene even shows the man isn't entirely in control of himself (he's infected) as you see what he thinks he is doing (verus what he is actually doing) when he is having an intimate encounter with a female technician.   The visuals and the littl eamount of dialogue keeps the viewer in the dark as you wonder where EDEN LOG will take you next.   The DVD only has two versions of the film: a decent English language track and the french language version of the film.  No extras to speak of and thus i wish they did have extras like a featurette and an audio commentary focusing on this low budget sci-fi art film.   Give EDEN LOG a chance and see what you think.
