Garth Franklin, writer and web master of the Dark Horizons web site, said “This is the best they could come up with?!” when he talked about the Wolverine film when he reviewed it.  I agree with him.  The actors do as much as they can with the material that is given them.  The action sequences are great (Wolverine getting his adamantium claws and the helicopter chase sequence).   The big problem is the script isn’t that fleshed out.  Sometimes it feels like an outline that could need some meat to it.  The characters don’t have very well developed stories.   The first thirty minutes aof story are too rushed and the climax is too rushed too.  It's like they needed to rush the story without needing to stop to develop things.  They figured putting in the basics would be good enough.   100 minutes and even a scene at the end of the credits don’t make enough time to tell a story worthy of Wolverine given the rich back story this character has in 35 plus years of stories.

X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE tells the back story of how Logan and his brother Victor fought side by side in several wars before their morals divided them.  Logan sought to hide and live his life with Silverfox.    However, Victor starts killing off mutants and a certain death brings Logan into the Weapon X program where he gets his tough skeleton and his name of Wolverine.   He is out for revenge against his brother Victor.   WOLVERINE is a disappointment in a few ways.  It feels like the Cliff Notes version of his origin story.  I hope they write a much better screenplay for the sequel that will probably be made due to the opening weekend haul of $87 million.
