WRITTEN by Zach Chassler (based on the 1970s film)
DIRECTED by Jeremy Kasten

THE WIZARD OF GORE is a very bloody mind trip. The film's story will screw with your head. It centers around Ed Bigelow (Kip Pardue) who runs an underground newspaper and lives of a trust fund. One night he takes his girlfriend Maggie (Bijou Phillips) to see a show by Montag The Magnificent (Crispin Glover). Montag kills a woman on stage and then she shows up alive. Ed is addicted and has to go back for more shows. He searches to unravel the truth of the shows when the women in Montag's shows end up dead in the same way that Montag killed them.

THE WIZARD OF GORE has a great cast (Glover, Dourif, Combs) and plenty of naked Suicide Girls before they are killed off by Montag. It is one of the most interesting horror movies to come to DVD- made on next to nothing. This film will get under some people's skins from the great gore sequences as Crispin Glover rules the film as Montag with Jeffrey Combs coming in a close second as the geek.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
The 26 minutes of deleted scenes with intros by director Jeremy Kasten features a few cut scenes with Montag (aka the Wizard Of Gore). The outtakes aren't bad. also included are ten still galleries and storyboard comparisons for the four of the stage scenes.

The audio commentary is with Director/Editor/Producer Jeremy Kasten, Writer Zach Chassler, Cinematographer/ Producer Christopher Duddy, and Assistant Editor/ Producer Maxx Gillman.

A few featurettes are on the disc:
MAKING OF THE WIZARD OF GORE- It feqatures interviews with cast and crew. Crispin Glover is very involved while Bijou Phillips is the the type of girl I would want to have as a cool friend (she's a total trip).
BEHIND THE SCREEN: A LOOK AT THE EFFECTS OF THE WIZARD OF GORE- a look at the various gore effects for the death of the Suicide girls involving fake bodies, a dummy, CGI, and blood.
FROM VOLUNTEER TO VICTIM: THE SUICIDEGIRLS IN THE WIZARD OF GORE- A featurette on how the Suicide Girls (post-punk pin-up models) became involved in the film with footage from the auditions for various roles. Some Suicide Girls are still friends with the director and a few even paid to fly across the country to part of the film.

FINAL ANALYSIS: THE WIZARD OF GORE is a fantastic horror film remake. Plenty of gore and mind screwing by the film. Also Suicide Girls are a big plus (especially Flux Suicide). This remake wants me to check out the 1970 original directed by Herschell Gordon lewis. Plenty of extras- I enjoyed the deleted scenes and the Suicide Girls featurette the most. Another great release from Dimension Extreme.
