During World War Two, there were fifteen known assassination attempts on Adolf Hilter, the lader of Nazi Germany. VALKYRIE is the story of the last attempt as a group of German military officers plot to kill Hitler and take control of the government so they can bring the war to an end in hope of striking a truce with the Allies (USA, UK, Russia).  Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg (Tom Cruise) was one of those officers who believed Hitler was leading Germany to defeat. An injury in North Africa causes the Colonel to lose his eye, his right hand, and two of his fingers on his left hand. After a stay in a German hospital, he is recruited into the plot. General Beck (Terence Stamp) is one of the ring leaders. The Colonel comes up with a plan to rewrite a Nazi plan called Valkyrie so they can throw on their little coup by making the reserve forces belive the SS are trying to take over the government after Hitler is killed at his bunker in the wolf's Den.

VALKYRIE is utterly gripping. The film goes into detail of the plan and the officer's hopes to carry out the plan. They know their lives are on the line if the plan fails and the things that do go wrong could mean the very end of the plan. We know the plan failed, but the film makes you believe they might have been able to pull it off. VALKYRIE is expertly directed by Bryan Singer. A group of British actors play German military officers like in so many other World War Two films.   The fine cast breath life into the characaters and edges up the intensity brought forth by the direction, scirpt, and the music score.   VALKYRIE is one of the best films of 2008.  It makes one wonder how the war would have ended if the plotters pulled off their plan.   It takes a look at how the solodiers were regular human beings trapped within the ideals of the Third Reich and how few even dared going against it.
