Today is Halloween as I write this latest Enterline column. First off, I will list my top 10 favorite horror movies.

10. John Carpenter's THE THING
9. EXCORIST 3- I still want to see Peter Blatty's original cut of this movie since so much footage was discarded and new footage put in. The exorcist scene wasn't in the original cut for one, but it is still one very creepy movie.

8. LIFEFORCE- What can I say about a sci-fi movie that turns into a horror movie turns into an end-of the-world zombie flick? I love this movie and the main villain is a naked woman/ vampire from outer space.
7. John Carpenter's HALLOWEEN- This is a very effective horror movie that still gives me the jumps and scares me. less is more.
6. ALIEN- creepy and claustrophobic

5. SUSPIRA- Dario Argento is an Italian horror god.
4. GINGER SNAPS- The best werewolf I have ever seen. it is about a teenage girl who gets bitten by a werewolf and how her younger sister tries to cover up what her sister does.
3. RESURRECTION- This is a movie that is creepy as SEVEN.
2. PITCH BLACK
1. John Carpenter's PRINCE OF DARKNESS- This movie still creeps me out from the creepy final scene to the concepts in this movie (like Anti-God). Some may think this movie is a turkey while others see it as underrated classic.

Finally, I have been watching some of the Halloween movies on AMC's MonsterFest and it makes me wish more that the original cut of Halloween 6 would be released. It is superior to the theatrical version. It's a different movie with 45 minutes of different footage and a totally different ending. The original cut is closer to a 1980s John Carpenter horror movie in feel from the music to the ending (which is different from the released version of Halloween 6). John Carpenter may not have directed any Halloween movie since the first, but the original cut in a way feels like the director is channeling John Carpenter. Happy Halloween!
