FALL MOVIE PREVIEW 2002:
SEPTEMBER-
THE FOUR FEATHERS (Sept 20)- Yep another adaptation of THE FOUR FEATHERS starring Heath Ledger, Wes Bently, Djimon Hounsou,
and Kate Hudson. Looks cool from the previews.
THE TRANSPORTER (Sept 13)- Looks like a cool action flick produced by Luc Besson, but I wait for the next Luc Besson film
even more.
BALLISTIC: ECKS VS. SERVER (Sept 20)- A kick ass action movie with Antonio Banderas fighting Lucy Lui and also starring
Talisa Soto and Ray Park?! Wow! Lets hope this one kicks ass like the ads makes it look.
THE TUXEDO- Jackie Chan as a guy who’s not super and has a gadget tuxedo? Huh? Also stars Jennifer Love Hewitt,
Jason Issacs, and the famous James Brown.
OCTOBER-
RED DRAGON (Oct 4)- Anthony Hopkins is back as Hannibal Lector in the second film adaptation of the prequel to Silence
of the Lambs (Manhunter was the first film to adapt RED DRAGON).
FRIDA- Salma Hayek gets her wish to star in a biopic about tortured Mexican painter Frida Kahlo.
THE RING (Oct 18)- I wish the Japanese version that the US version remakes was available in the US, but Ill check this
one out anyway. And remember don’t watch a certain cursed blank tape unless you want to die seven days later (Wait!
Thats the plot of the movie!). Stars Naomi Watts.
THE RULES OF ATTRACTION (Oct 11)- James Van Der Beek (yep, the guy who plays Dawson), Jessica Biel, and Kip Pardue star
in a twisted college movie directed by Roger Avary based on a novel by Bret Easton Ellis (the same guy who wrote American
Psycho which was adapted into a movie too).
ABANDON- It has Katie Holmes, but I wonder if people will abandon the movie quickly. Sorry. Had to make that joke.
AUTO FOCUS- Greg Kinnear stars as Bob Crane in this biopic of the Hogans Heroes star.
SWEPT AWAY- Probably another forgettable bomb starring Madonna.
BELOW (Oct11)- David Twohy directs a Haunted submarine film set during World war 2.
GHOST SHIP (Oct 25)- Cool looking horror movie starring Gabriel Byrne and Julianna Margulies that is about a salvage crew
coming upon an old haunted ocean liner.
NOVEMBER-
DIE ANOTHER DAY (Nov 22)- Pierce Brosnan is back as James Bond for the 20th movie in the James Bond series. Halle berry
is along as another secret agent helping Bond. I’m not saying anything about the plot but this is the 40th anniversary
since the first James Bond came out (DR. NO).
HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS (Nov 15)- yes, the adaptation of the second Harry Potter book.
I SPY (Nov 1)- Murphy is a boxer who helps a secret agent (Owen Wilson) on a mission to stop a Euro baddie from stealing
a stealth plane. Also stars Malcolm McDowell, Famke Janssen, and Gary Cole.
THE CORE- Hilary Swank plays an astronaut who goes to the Earths core to make sure the electromagnetic field doesn’t
go away and its part of a mission to save the planet. Aaron Eckhart, Delroy Lindo, Stanley Tucci, and Bruce Greenwood are
along for the mission.
SOLARIS (Nov 27)- George Clooney stars as a psychologist who goes to a space station orbiting around a planet with a living
ocean in this adaptation of the 1961 novel and a remake of the 1972 Tarkovsky film. I really want to see this one because
I like the book and the 1972 film.
8 MILE- Curtis Hanson directs Eminem in a fictional movie that mirrors the rappers life. Eek!
PHONE BOOTH- Colin Farrell doesn’t do much for me as a an actor. He stars in a movie directed by Joel Schumacher
about a guy who will be shot if he hangs up the phone in a phone booth. But whats cool is Kiefer Sutherland is the sniper
and you have two hot babes who can act (Katie Holmes and Rhada Mitchell).
FEMME FATALE (Nov 8)- Brian DePalma directs another film noir movie and this time it stars Rebecca Romijn Stamos, Antonio
Banderas, and Peter Coyote. Lets hope it doesn’t start out great and fizzle like SNAKE EYES and that it is a great
movie like any old DePalma movie.
DECEMBER-
LOTR: THE TWO TOWERS (Dec 18)- What needs to be said about this other than it is the adaptation of the second J.R.R. Tolkien
book in the Lord of the Rings trilogy directed by Peter Jackson? Nothing.
STAR TREK: NEMESIS (Dec 13)- Tenth Star Trek movie and the fourth outing for the Next Generation crew in what looks to
be a kick ass movie because the eve numbered ones are the better Trek movies anyway. It features Romulans, someone who looks
like a young Picard as the villain, another Data android, a jeep chase, space battles, Remans, a Riker/Troi wedding, and so
on.
GANGS OF NEW YORK (Christmas)- Martin Scorsese finally brings his 25 year old ream project to the screen starring Leonardo
DiCaprio, Cameron Diaz, and Daniel Day Lewis as the bad guy. The movie does look cool about immigrants coming together as
gangs and fighting each other for New York in the 19th century.
CATCH ME IF YOU CAN- Do I want to catch this movie where Leo plays a teenager who poses as different careers and write
millions in bad checks before being caught by an FBI agent played by Tom Hanks? I don’t know. Might wait for video.
Oh yeah, Steven Spielberg directs.
ANALYZE THAT- I didn’t like the first one, so I wont be seeing the sequel.
CHICAGO- a film adaptation of the Broadway musical CHICAGO.
ADAPTATION- a screenwriter writes an biopic about himself and Spike Jonz directs it. Nicholas cage plays the screenwriter
and his twin brother.
THE CHAMBERMAID- Not another rich guy, poor girl romance! Starring Jennifer Lopex and Ralph Fiennes.
CONFESSIONS OF A DANGEROUS MIND- George Clooney directs himself and a cast that includes Rutger Hauer.
I didn’t mention some movies because I had nothing to say about them. This is kinda of like my best and worst
movies list of the Fall movie season. Have a better one.
