HEROES Season 2 (aka Volume 2: GENERATIONS) proved to be a disappointment for some fans. I liked the new season. It still held some great action and excitement. Did they drag some things out too long? Yes. Hiro probably was in 1670 japan for too long? Yes. Was it still interesting to see David Anders as the hero Takezo Kensei, but not the way Hiro expected? Yes. Did every single storyline drag on for a little too long? yes. It is storyline that would have played out better over the course of 8 episodes instead of 11. Did any of the new characters live to the first one? Only one- Elle played by Kristen Belle. Elle is excited by her powers and looks like she wants to hump Peter. The other new characters I wouldn't miss if they were killed or never heard from again. The possible virus in the future plot was interesting including Peter's trip into the future (shame he left his new girlfriend there). For all the mistakes of the second season, the writer's strike could be a blessing and season 3 sounds like HEROES has been recharged when it starts on NBC on September 22nd.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
Audio commentaries for every episode with cast and crew- they were the podcasts that originally were available online.

Featurettes on various discs:
HEROES: SEASON 2- A NEW BEGINNING (DISC 1)- cast and the executive producers (Tim Kring and Allan Arkush) talk about the characters and the new season.
TAKEZO KENSEI: SWORD SAINT (DISC 2)- fake documentary on the legend of Takezo Kensi as narrated by John Rhys-Davies.
THE DRUCKER FILES (DISC 2)- fake news reporters on some mysterious guy named Drucker responsible for creating the internet.
GENETICS OF A SCENE (DISC 3)- look at filming of scenes from four episodes (Chapter 2, 1, 8, and 11) with directors Allan Arkush (Chapters 2 and 11) and Greg Beeman (Chapters 1 and 8). It was interesting to see how the Japan scenes were shot in Chapter 2.
SEASON 3 SNEAK PEEK (DISC 4)- cast and crew give a peek at what is coming in season 3. I think I would have been happier if the first 15 minutes of Season 3 were shown instead.
INSIDE THE ALTERNATE ENDING OF GENERATIONS (DISC 4)- The executive producers and writers discuss the alternate ending and what would have been for the unfinished episodes 12 and 13. They go on to explain how one change gave way to a new direction for Volume 3: VILLAINS and how the writer's strike made Zachary Quinto available again for the whole next story.
NBC.COM featurettes (DISC 4)- very skippable bits of video camera footage: HOTEL CORINTHIAN EXPLOSION/ MAYA Y ALEJANDRO VIRAL VIDEO/ NATHAN AND PETER BROOKLYN CAM

The alternate ending for episode 11 (POWERLESS) is interesting and so are the lost scenes for what would have been episodes 12 and 13 of the season. I wish they stayed with the original ending because it offers up intersting possibilities. Here's hoping their new storyline is just as good.
Also on Disc 4 is the TIM SALE GALLERY OF SCREEN ART

FINAL ANALYSIS: No matter what fans may think of season 2 (or their disappointment in), the season 2 has some fantastic extras with the alternate ending and lost scenes being the best.
